Geeqie is a great application for viewing photos.

 

Its easy to display photo data (e.g. EXIF) and even chose how & what you want to display.

So this post explains how to do it!

Photography: I like manual lenses

Manual lenses can be a lower cost alternative to those that support automatic operation.

The disadvantages are pretty obvious.

But I still prefer to manually set the camera before releasing the shutter.

Your attempts to get a perfect shot can often be spoilt by visual obstructions like branches, or distracting backgrounds like buildings or litter, or just the long distance between you and your target bird.

Then there may be noisy dogs or unruly children to contend with (...or vice versa).

Spots on my photos

Although a few spots on a photo can be fixed by running the image through your favourite photo editing software, the source of the problem should be investigated.

If you use a DSLR, black spots are most likely caused by dirt directly on the surface of the cameras sensor.

I've noticed this problem with photos taken on my Pentax K-30 during the last few months, but only just found the time to take a closer look.

Pentax K30 + Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC HSM

A few days ago I took possession of a new Sigma zoom lens.

It is essentially a replacement for the Pentax DA 18-55mm AL lens that people often buy bundled with a Pentax DSLR.

So here are a few comments on the Sigma with a simple comparison to the old Pentax.

PiCam: replacing the RaspiCam lens

I wanted to get a closer view of the robins nesting in my garden shed.

So I decided to replace the standard RaspiCam lens on my PiCam with an M12 threaded lens.

This is the third time I've carried out this modification, and I still have a 100% success rating!

Yongnuo Wireless Remote Control WR-159

We just bought one of these little wonders for a Canon 1100D. Great price, nice box, but no instructions.

OK, so it may not be the most difficult bit of tech, but I see others on the net searching for an instruction manual, so this may help someone.

I couldn't find a "WR-159" on the Yongnuo website, but they make a YN-159.
